Black & White Study # 1

In photography, black and white often reveal subtleties that aren’t apparent in full color. The same is true in glass. This study combines the two colors emersed in clear that gives the impression of black and white images floating in air. Each pursual reveals something new. The work is comprised of two separate glass pieces each shaped in a gentle wave form. Both are mounted on a wooden stand that is stained ash.

This fused glass sculpture combines the strip construction technique with the use of pattern bars.  Special consideration is given to firing the glass due to the extreme range of color. Black absorbs heat, white reflects it. That difference can be seen in the final shapes of color.
